| Lyn the Martial Artist Although perhaps less glamorous, Sifu Lyn's accomplishments as a martial artist may be even more impressive than those in media. He is a 10th degree black sash in Ling Gar Tzai Kune Do having also trained extensively in Tai Chi Ch'uan, Hung Gar, Hung Kuen, Bak-sing Choy Li Fut and Wing Chun (among others) as well as being a national (1983-84) and international (1985 and 87) Kickboxing champion. At age 38, Sifu Lyn has already been acknowledged by some of the most respected and prestigious martial arts grandmasters and organizations in the world. The National Soki Council selected him Man of the Year for 1998, making him one of the youngest members ever inducted into its Martial Arts Masters, Pioneers, Legends Hall of Fame. He was also the only person inducted into the 1998 World Martial Arts Hall of Fame of the Honorary World Soki Council in two separate categories: "Most Outstanding Kung-Fu Master, Instructor" and secondly, "Most Outstanding Martial Arts Actor". Sifu Lyn has received his Ph.D as Professor of Martial Sciences/Sports Medicine and has had bestowed upon him the title of Si-Tai Gung, i.e. the 10th Degree Black Sash and Grand Master of his family's Chinese Martial Arts system, Ling Gar. He is also responsible for the name by which his family's style is known in the west. "Ling Gar, my family's style, is literally the family name, 'Gar' meaning 'family' in Chinese, like Hung Gar is the Hung family style. The name Ling Gar Tzai Kune Do ("The Way of Immobilizing an Attack From It's Origin") was created by my cousin (Ling Yin Shi) and myself to help those in the west understand something about the style. In China these things (Kung Fu and family styles) are part of the culture, a way of life and often implicitly understood and learned that way. In the west that isn't the case, things need to be more direct."
